This my pattern for a small journal quilt I am making and each month am using a new method and thought I'd use the pixel class to complete March. I have yet to complete the actual quilt but the class has been excellent seeing me through. Now completed, but I made a few changes and as my quilt was to be 12" x 8" I didn't feel using different fabrics was a good idea so I actually used free motion quilting to fill in the grid and I think it worked out great. I still used the exact same methods to know where to put each colour block.
What was your inspiration?
My theme for my Journal Quilt Challenge is 'Flower of the Month' and March happens to be Daffodil and I wanted to do a literal quilt for March and therefore chose the picture of a Daffodil but used a method I have not used before, via the Craftsy class Pictures to Pixel Quilts and its working out great.
What are you most proud of?
Of working out the values and the pattern myself, instead of using the eye project which would have been just as fulfilling but by choosing my own subject I had to 'go it alone' as it were, although truth be told I played the videos over and over checking I had taken the correct steps.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you are a beginner to quilting, stick to the subject matter given and the course materials, but if you are a confident quilter choose your own subject and stretch yourself a little, get out of your comfort zone, you don't have to go mad and have a very difficult design in fact the Tutor says many times at the beginning about simplifying the subject matter, but have a go is the overall message you might find a new method to love! I did!
