Vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling covered with fondant.

What was your inspiration?

This class... the teacher- Thanks!!!!!!

What are you most proud of?

I love cooking but I really don't like baking. I think I have baked only a few times in my whole life. However I wanted to learn how to make realistic cakes and learn how to cover with fondant. This is my very first cake and I really tried to make it as realistic as possible. I am so so proud of making this, baking it and all.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Patience!!!!!

beautiful loved the way in which you showed a slice of the cake which has been cut out, nobody ever does that, great idea. cookery writers should use your example. Cake looks delicious inside as well as spectacular on the outside.

This is fabulous, how did you manage tp get the different shades of brown, was it with a spray gun?

with a brush and color dust (chocolate brown, black and a brick color). I then buffed it with vegetable shortening.

OMG!!! This is amazing and for your first cake, I am so impressed! Do you have the "bug" now to make more? I can't believe how great this turned out for someone who hadn't worked with fondant before! Did you buy the alligator mold? I've been thinking of getting it...but, it's pricey..Congrats on your cake! I love it!

Thanks so much. I actually have gotten the bug. I am taking several other courses on etsy, so lets see how I do. I bought the alligator mold and it is amazing! Truly makes the difference. Other molds are very repetitive and do not look so realistic. It is worth buying.

You are welcome. Missed the instructions : using a mixer, start on low speed until well combined. Then, switch to high speed and whip the pudding until thick and fluffy. Ifmousse is too thick, mix in a little bit of heavy cream or milkto reach desired consistency. Good luck and let me know how you like it!

I only did one "line" of meringue buttercream dam so at the top of the purse where I carved out more cake It was kind of messy. However I managed to make it work.

Sorry.... I hit enter and posted the comment without finishing it...... I suggest you make two lines of meringue buttercream like Elisa suggests. I am not at all experienced in baking cakes and realized later that I had missed that part of the instruction. I learned now hahaha.

BTW the recipe for the mousse filling was delicious and really easy: whip up 500 ml ( 1/2 Liter) of whipping cream with one small package of chocolate instant pudding.... that is it!
