Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Home & Garden

Type of item: Plant or Flower

For: Home

Style: Eco-Friendly, Casual, Outdoorsy, Whimsical

Materials

Our old front gate, Bricks (I cleaned) from our old front fence. Soil - lots of soil and manure and lime and worm castings.

What was your inspiration?

I love to grow things. Especially from seeds. This garden produces so much Basil from just one plant, we had lots of Pesto throughout the year. I had chillies galore and made chillie jam which was delicious.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that it produces food for my family. We live in Melbourne, inner city. Our yard is not very big so I have tried to make veggie gardens that look attractive but are functional. This is only one of six small areas of the back yard that I have transformed over the years.

My friends have beautiful back gardens with pools and Agaves and Yukkas and they look like they should be in a magazine. In my back garden you can relax and let your hair down.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sit with a cup of coffee and think for awhile. It will come to you.

I like your advice about sitting with a cup of (iced) coffee and think for awhile. I live in the low desert in CA. That is something I've been doing, since it was too hot to garden in Aug and it did give me some time to realize a little better "design" for our yard.
