My son's birthday cake

Need better lustre dust!

Need better lustre dust!
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Boys

Style: Outdoorsy

What was your inspiration?

My son's 5th birthday

What are you most proud of?

Just a quick, easy cake made for close family. His bigger, flashier cake to be made in a couple of weeks time when he has his party (and I have to impress the other mums!)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Used Tappits for the footballs and then painted in the black panel - super easy and fast!

Yes, this is true. If the cake is too cold, especially if you're putting dowels in it, it will have an air bubble on it. Please allow the cake to come up to room temperature or sit at least 30 minutes before drapping.

Had an issue with the fondant this morning. One side had expanded as if they were a big pocket of air between the fondant and the cake. My friend google suggests it might be because I covered the cake straight from the fridge, therefore it expanded on getting up to room temperature. Any thoughts??

Don't know if it's available near you but Sunflower Sugar Art makes some great gold dusts. If you use them with a bit of vodka or lemon extract they are amazing. Here's a link: http://www.sunflowersugarartusa.com/searchquick-submit.sc?keywords=gold+dust

Thanks. Managed to find a better one in my box! It's the joys of baking for your family, you get to try things out and they end up not getting your best cakes!
