Knitting: My Skywalker Shawl

My Skywalker Shawl

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Knit This: Mastering Lace Shawls »

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

Mountain Colors Bearfoot color Berry

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I loved this course, it was fun and I learned a lot!
Though I loved the yarn I used and the shawl design, I wouldn't advise anyone to choose the yarn for this project. The shawl doesn't have the amount of drape I would like.

You stated that you would not use this yarn for the shawl--is it a fingering weight or a dk weight? Do you think the yarn is too dense for this project? Color is lovely. I am working with a fingering weight and hope that I will not be sorry. My yarn is from a different source--it is merino and silk.

Can you steam the yarn to kill any nylon in it to make it drapier?
Knitnut813 on craftsy.com
Nov 23, 2011   Flag as inappropriate
I don't know. I know some people "kill" acrylic to make it drapier, but I don't know about nylon.

Beautiful shawl and I love the way your figured out how to block it! I've never seen the use of foam like that, but will definitely steal this idea for future large projects!

That should say "the way you figured out." Ugh! Hate typos and the inability to delete the comment or go back in and fix it! ;^)

This looks like the basic round E .Z immerman shawl pattern worked in half with lace selections by the knitter herself. These sre really fun to do and I like your edging choice. I also like the blow up feature of the website.

I believe you're right about Elizabeth Zimmerman. But, I didn't choose the lace patterns, Laura Nelkin designed the shawl.

Thank you, that's so nice to hear! I do love the yarn, just not for this project. The yarn has a lovely sheen, it's great to knit with and it feels very nice.
