My quilts

Instructions

I have no special instructions. I just took my first class in October, and took some of what I learned and turned it into this quilt which I made for my boss and his wife.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Casual, Whimsical

Materials

100% cotton, plus a touch of satin

What was your inspiration?

I've been sewing since I was 6 and I am "older" now...while I was taking the class, my instruction was impressed and asked why I hadn't quilted before. I responded it was because I wasn't impressed with the older earlier designs, but now quilting is an art form. I took this to her when it was done and she was VERY impressed...the photos I have showing it completed are too small to fit on Craftsy's page but it had my boss and his wifes initials in the upper left section...little butterflys in the middle...and the Poppys, were taken from a book I can't find right now...but I contacted the designer and asked it it was ok to use her Poppy pattern and she said yes...I have since sent her a photo and she liked it. The actual cover of her book is yellow with a field of poppys...each poppy had about 6 or 7 individual pieces which I cut out, laid on a pattern, and stitched onto the fabric. They were very pretty and my boss's wife sent me the sweetest note, indicating as well, that she had wanted to quilt but wound up not being able to take the class. She asked her husband, my boss, why anyone would give away something so beautiful...;I told him to tell her when someone is as terrific as he is, even if he has to reprimand me, it is a joy to give something back.

What are you most proud of?

The entire quilt...it is my very first completed project.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun...

Dear Everyone. I just put the photos on last night and already, you have found me. THANK U from the bottom of my heart for all you lovely wishes...and your appreciation of my work. I have just finished my 2nd quilt but evidently using a cell phone camera has kept me from being able to publish it on Craftsy... I will be putting up a website and will leave a note for you to see it. The quilt originally was dark blue and green, which my sister-in-law requested but them my strange brother requested rather than an airplane I put a "COW" on it...yes, a cow. So I redid the entire quilt...HIS side has a 2' by 3' Cow...in a pasteur with the sky behind it and my last thing was adding the clouds. The FRONT of the quilt is for my sister-in-;law...several shades of light blue with patterns...and a pink vase with assorted pink and lavender tulips...and a couple pink butterflys. In the meantime, I gave the first quilt to my boss because he is a great person, has taken good care of me and apparently has a loving family life and, wife. I liked that so much, I decided to do something special and, as I mentioned in my earlier info his precious wife wrote me a very lovely thank you...plus, she mentioned she had actually signed up for a class, purchased everything and then, unfortuntely, whatever happened she was unable to attend...she was very excited to see what someone can do their first quilt and I'm hoping once I forward the 2nd quilt photos to my boss to show her, she will be decided to "go for it". OK...just got home from work...again, thank you so much. Have a great day.

This is gorgeous. I love poppies and they look great against this background. I've never tried quilting but you inspire me to give it a go!

It's a very beautiful first quilt. I'm sure you'll make many more quilts that will be as lovely or even more, but even so - how generous of you to give it to your boss!

My goodness, it's gorgeous! You must make more because you are an artist.
