This is totally out of the scrap box

What was your inspiration?

While looking through my fabric stash, trying to decide what to use in this project, I found quite a few charm squares left over from a previous project and some my friend gave me when she finished her project. She does not keep a scrap box (I KNOW!!) so asked her for her leftovers. Kimberly made her quilt using batiks, I have none, as I don't care for batiks. So I just used the Moda Kansas Troubles and a few Thimbleberries thrown in. I must say, I think it came out pretty good :D

What are you most proud of?

You do not have to make a carbon copy of the instructor's project. As I said, batiks are not my favorites, so I used what I had and made the project truly my own.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Get some sharp scissors, because you do more cutting and ironing than sewing. It is a bit bulky to sew together, but proceed carefully and you can do it!

Just love this quilt - thank you for your advice - I have yet to decide on fabrics and am also not a great fan of batiks.

thanks Beth245. I seldom use the same fabric as the instructors use. I think it is my quilt and I will use what I like in it :)

So nice - it looks kind of difficult, but I see you've only given it two dots. Perhaps it's not as hard as it looks, but even if it is, it's well worth the effort!

it really isn't difficult- it is made with fusible applique then sewing the squares together. Lots of cutting and ironing, but no curved sewing.

Reply to this comment...or i should say no curved piecing. You applique the curves, though.

Nice job! I was just reading up on the steps for this project last night and was thinking of making one--how ironic! Thanks for the suggestions and tips--nice to hear from someone who completed this. I love it!
