This used a Fence Rail style quilt with stripes cut into
2 1/2 " pieces by 10" long. I used 9 different fabrics (about 1/4 - 1/2 yards) for this part and pre cut every stripe. I then layed them out in a color rainbow effect and began to grab 5 at a time. Make sure you pin each one as the fabrics may spread as you sew, this will help to keep it square. You will need 36 squares to make this quilt.(Twin size) When the squares were done, here comes the fun part. Piecing them together. In order to get the little square in the middle, I cut a 6 in square from the pink. I then folded the pink in half with color side out and pinned in between 2 of the squares ( one turned like this E, and one turned like this LLLl ) print side together and seam at 1/4 ". then turn open and press leaving it in this position. Add the second set of squares in the same order. Then seam again. You should now have 2 sets of squares bridged by the 6" piece. This is now the tricky part. You then take the previously joined ends and match then up with the other side, making sure the center seam is in allignment. The center piece (bridge) will need to be stretched and pinned into position along this seam line. Do one side at a time. Once all pinned, seam and then open and press, and the little square will open up in the middle. You can either leave it fluffy and loose, or stitch around it to tack it into place. A decorative stitch can be used as well... or wait until later and quilt one in. Applicade work can be add too! Finish all the squares before stitching them together. Make sure to follow the lay out plan the same way for everyone as they wont follow the patterned if any variation is made, and then you'll have to take it apart and do it again. To frame it in I used a 3 1/2" border and measured the quilt in 3 spots prior to cutting the stripes into lengths that fit each side. 1/4' seam and then press. Stretch and pin to backing and batting. Quilt first and then hand finish the border joining both sides.

I used 12 different types of fabrics. Some Prints but mostly Batiks and Moda style fabrics. I actually started with the Indian infused style blue print and went from their. The hot pink was an after thought but actually calmed down the quilt.
What was your inspiration?
My daughter Kelsey would loves everything bright and cheerful. I fell in love with one print and it went from there.
What are you most proud of?
Finising this project in just a couple of days.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Take your time with the turning making sure not to pinch any additional fabric into the seam when you finish the blocks. Also making sure to lay out the pieces on a large table to make sure everyone is going in the correct direction.
