Sewing: my first scoop neck
144 kudoz

my first scoop neck

front

front
back

Instructions

I didn't have a pattern for this just basically cut the front in a t shape(with long top part of T about 5" wide) and the back just a straight cut , alot of trying it on the dummy to get it nice and snug on sides

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Cute

Materials

soft stretchy fabric (with a nice flow to it) thread, sewing machine

What was your inspiration?

the fabric, it was so soft and flowy I thought it would look great like this

What are you most proud of?

that it actually came out really nice and matched one of the necklaces I had made a while back

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

just use real soft stretchy material to get a nice flowing look (also, I chose to do the straps but looks nice as a wrap around neck style also I just prefer straps)

I love this top. I sound dumb, but how do you drape the fabric. I would like to make me one of these tops.

i really just cut the front in a T shape with the top part of the T about 5" wide(? up and down part) and the arms of the T much longer than front of shirt, then when you put the straps over shoulders it creates the drape in the front ...and i folded the top of the T in half...hope this helps and thanks

Great projects, Cyndi. Would you mind also posting a tutorial or link for how to do a duct tape dressmakers dummy?

Just a thought.... this would make a great top to the stiped dress you posted! Obviously not in stipes though. What do you think?"

You made my favorite blouse easier to make. I've made several of this style, but the T shape pattern makes it easy & fun to make out of many materials! Thank you for the blouse n pattern n ideas!!!

Very nice. It would be helpful if you could add some more pictures showing the detail of how you did the front and how it attaches to the strap

the straps are part of the front, it was just cut in a T shape and use the sides of the T as the straps, after folding them in half to make the drape look better in the front, its hard to describe but i will try to cut another one out and take pictures before i sew soon

I think this is stupendous! I admire sewers who make clothing without a pattern and this is something special. I always called this type of shirt a cowl neck though.
