What was your inspiration?

My sister. She had found the Quilt in a Day pattern and was visiting me on East coast, and said we could make a quilt in a day...okay. It took a little more than a day all told, but was so much fun. It would be awhile before I tried again, but put quilting in my blood.

What are you most proud of?

Finishing it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Fabrics come and go - at the time, I wanted the blues and pinks...it was the 90s! Pick what suits you.

I started the Log Cabin quilt also for my first by using the same book. Problem is I sewed all my blocks together and thats as far as I got. I have everything I need to finish mine, I just goot lazy. I would have to send my to be quilted also. I have heard the term stitch in the ditch, but don''t have a clue how to do it. Could you instruct me on how its done? I would apprediate it.

If you can get the quilt setup - sandwiched with backing, batting, and top - and pinned, you just sew where the blocks/fabrics are sewn together. It is best to start in the middle. Check out this video. Good luck.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt0Zq-DBBkI

The Log Cabin from Quilt In A Day was my first quilt also. It took me a few weeks (working on it a little each weekend). It was what started me quilting. Mine had greens and creams with a red center. I had to send mine out to be quilted since it was king size. I still haven't gotten the hang of quilting other than in the ditch. I have been doing this only a few years. Great first quilt!

Thanks! I am still more of a ditcher myself, but taking a long arm quilting machine certification class this week. I just have too many quilts! LOL. I usually use my best long arm quilter - sewingnancy@aol.com aka Nancy Williams - she does a fabulous job. Quilting is addictive! Thanks for sharing your first quilt too!
