What was your inspiration?

I am always looking for easy neat things to make to pass my time. I have been inspired by those who make mini quilted mug rugs. So I have been trying to come up with my own design and size.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of the fact that I have found a way to use up those scraps and practice my FMQ at the same time.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I would advise you to not throw away any loose scraps that are laying around after a project, even if they are only 1 inch wide or long. Make a box or bag to store them in until you can make something like this.

Jean, this is what some of us will be doing on top of our quilts when the BOM is over. After we sandwich our quilt top with the batting (I like cotton batting) and the back piece. then add a lot of fmq stitches, bind it, and you have a quilt.

Very cute and so practical. I imagine these will be good sellers. I'm not wishing I'd saved even smaller scraps. I save strips, but I'm learning on BOM and with projects like this every little bit can be used! I'm a newbie. What is FMQ? TI A!

FMQ = free motion quilting. The lines on top of the quilt. I did stippling, curvy lines and you have to have a free motion quilting foot. You could just make straight lines. But I have found a great teacher, Leah Day @ http://www.freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/ Check it out. she makes learning easy and fun. Thanks for the nice comment.

Great idea to start ahead on holiday crafts. I was also thinking that these small pieces would make great projects to practice machine quilting technique for beginners.

I plan on donating some to the church bizzaar in December too. I can see a little gift set with two nice coffee mugs, some mug rugs, and eithor coffee or hot cocoa in the gift package, wrapped nicely. That should bring in some money to send to our Mission church in Mexico.
