Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy workshop:
Lemoyne Star Quilted Trivet »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Traditional

Materials

100% cotton and batting as per instructions

What was your inspiration?

My fellow Craftsy quilters and a great instructor!

What are you most proud of?

My FIRST EVER completed quilting project from start to finish!!! And finished in the nick of time for Mum Mother's Day pressie lol. First time ever using a walking foot... first time lots of things!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Learn to walk before you can run... if you try something different to the original pattern and it doesn't work then find an easy way to cover up your stuff up and still finish it so it's presentable... Mum will never know lol.
I wanted to use a fancy stitch to secure the binding so I sewed it to the back but then found it was too thick. Ended up hand sewing the front side... but that was ok coz I'm a neat hand stitcher (thank goodness lol) The other bit I had trouble with was sewing the 2 ends of the binding together... completely stuffed up in the end but just had enough to fold one end over neatly on top. I'll be back to tackle the binding trick another day... I'm not giving up... just ran out of time this round. Yes there will be more trivets too... I'm addicted!

Thanks Desna! Amazing difference using a walking foot, I know every body says its a must have but its not until you try it for yourself that you really appreciate the difference it makes eh? Yes I'm determined to get the hang of FMQ!

I'm most impressed with the quilting on this project - so neat and varied. I feel inspired to try and copy you on some of my projects! (Doubt whether I can keep my lines as straight, though!)

I love this one! and that lighter fabric is awesome! I thought you went and made it scrappy! also, I'm going to try a share a better way to start/end the binding. I'll take pictures this weekend. let's just say no wrestling needed!

Thanks! Ha ha looks scrappy but without the extra work... don't you just love fabric like this! Look forward to no wrestling involved binding... happy to try it out when you're ready, if you need a willing guinea pig ;-)

Ooops forgot to ask you, did you work out the cutting sizes for a smaller block? I'd like to make one about 10 inches too. Cheers, Pam
