Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Women

Style: Whimsical

Materials

Cotton matterial, cotton batting, cotton & monofiliment threads.

What was your inspiration?

This quilt is entitled THE HOMEMAKER. She feels the pressure of the world on her shoulders with things to do for the day. She has to bake cookies for the school's bake sale tomorrow, make sure she takes care of her sick daughter, pick up her son from school at 3pm, and wash the floor. She tries to multi-task, and finds that she is getting frazzled with every passing minute. Just as she finishes washing the floor, the mail comes with her son's progress report from school. As she intently opens the envelope and begins to read the report, she opens the door to let the dog in. She did not realize that the dog had muddy paws upon entry.

As a mom/homemaker myself, I had fun drawing and putting together this whimsical raw-edge applique quilt. As I was constructing this quilt, I thought of all those times when I felt just like this woman. I am sure there will be many more times in my life with three kids, two dogs, and a husband. I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Happy Mothers Day!!!

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of myself that I have started to draw and create my own quilts. I have only been quilting for about 5 years. I have my own alteration business that has been going for 11 years. I see my children starting to be creative in their own way and be strong young adults now. I am proud of my husband being able to constantly be in motion (like the energizer bunny) even after the crosses he has had to bear.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Learn the basics of quilting and sewing first. Explore different types of quilting techniques and styles. There are all sorts of classes and books out there. If you wish to do art quilts, start taking pictures, draw, write down words that inspire you. You never know what will make a great quilt for you.

I'm just starting to pick from my collection of pictures, drawings, and words. I can't wait to do more!!!

Peace Always!!

The only the drawing in pencil that I did. If anyone is adventerous and would like to do this applique quilt, I would be able to put together the directions to do this and the price.

Very clever. Love the texture, and the details. You certainly conveyed the sense of fatigue that comes from multitasking.

Love the little details like the bubbles overflowing the pail and the texture on the cat. Great job!
