Mothers Day Contest: Handprint Quilt

Instructions

Have each family member trace the hand they write with and write their name and birthday. Then simply add 1/4 inch and needle turn appliqué in place on whole cloth or on squares. Add additional shapes with inspirational words Finish the quilt in the traditional way with batting, backing and binding.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Cute

Materials

Cotton quilting fabric and batting.

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration was Grandma Thomason. She taught me the needle turn appliqu technique and I made this quilt. Its also a great way to always remember each child, grandchild, and great grandchild's birthday.

What are you most proud of?

Actually getting it done in time:)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Start several months in advance if family members live out of state. You can fuse the handprints in place and button hole stitch around them to save time. If you have a small family it looks really nice to place each print on a square.

Hi Korissa, you just won another heart for your lovely project. I love your idea and the colourful mixed sizes hand prints on the white background. I have a very soft spot for family heirlooms and I am sure this is going to be such a one for your family. Good luck!

They are the actual outlines of each family member's hand.
