What was your inspiration?

The Elizabeth Hartman mosaic pillow on her website.

What are you most proud of?

That it fit in the nursery so well, and it was pieced freehand (no pattern to follow) and it is a Modern Quilt for my daughter and her new baby boy to enjoy for years to come. This is only my third attempt at a quilt, and it has inspired me to do many more.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

My daughter and I went to the local quilt shop and bought 5 different yards of coordinating fabric. We used these to make the curtains, crib skirt and matching pillows. Then I got the idea to make a quilt, and since I had many small pieces left over, this idea was the perfect fit. It isn't hard to do, just follow her steps and don't give up, it will work out and you can always add fabric to a block if you need it wider or longer in the end. There are many examples of this type of quilt on Flicker, to inspire you.
It is the ultimate stash buster!
