Materials

I created this gazing ball for my mother for her birthday. she loves to garden and she does is regularly. I thought she might like to decorate it as well. I purchased a large styrofoam ball at a craft store and covered it with plaster casting strips, about 2-3 layers, letting it dry thoroughly between layers. I then used various types of glass, including: Mirror, crash glass, recycled glass, beads, pearls, shells, van gogh, iridescents, etc. It was then grouted and sealed. I hope you enjoy it. It was my first 3-D type piece I've done and I had lots of fun with it.

What was your inspiration?

My mom and her garden.

What are you most proud of?

How well it turned out being my first 3-D project. Now I know I could handle making a larger scale object.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time, and have fun! It will all come together in the end. Trust me!

Did you start with a bowling bowl? I've made a few with bowling balls but never anything so intricate - very nice.
