Morning Surf Scarf

Pattern Info

This project was designed by JackieES.
Info can be found at:

HeartStrings #A6 Morning Surf »

Instructions

Morning Surf captures the feeling of gentle waves under a morning haze. The scarf is a simple lace-type structure that knits up quickly because of the dropped yarn-overs.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Outdoorsy, Traditional, Casual

Materials

3.5 oz of handspun (by me) 2-ply bombyx silk/merino blend on size 2 US needles, for a finished size of 11" by 48"

What was your inspiration?

The scarf shown here is the one I originally made as a tribute to the '95 Destin Spin-In using a fingering-weight handspun in gray-green vari-toned. I composed a stitch and row sequence to capture the feeling of the gentle waves under a morning haze as I took my walks on the beach.

What are you most proud of?

The Morning Surf Scarf is the perfect pattern for showing off handspun yarn. Featured on the magazine cover of Interweave Spin-Off Summer 2008 issue, "1 Scarf 10 Ways", full article beginning on page 86.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You don't have to use any particular color, or even a particular weight of yarn for this scarf. Suggestions are given in the pattern.
