Home Dec fabric, fusible horsehair interfacing, and a zipper.
What was your inspiration?
My friend's mother is diabetic and needed a zippered tote with a zippered, insulated interior pocket. I made her one and she carried it everywhere. So when my friend got married, I made her mom another one (monogrammed) for letting me stay at her home during the festivities.
What are you most proud of?
Getting the proportions right - the bottom part of the bag in relation to the top part of the bag. The "G" bag was my first attempt - I made the bottom (brown) piece taller on my own bag.
And getting the monogrammed centered. I purchased the monogram at Five Star Fonts. Love it.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Use a heavy cotton duck on the bottom of the tote - it is stronger and won't show wear in the corners like other totes. And don't use fusible fleece - use fusible horsehair; it doesn't add bulk and it makes the fabric stronger.
I plan on getting this pattern developed and written in the next few months.
