Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Thread Art »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic

Materials

Quilting cotton (3 kinds), black thread, sewing machine, Polychromos oil colored pencils, Crayola colored pencils, Liquitex fabric medium

What was your inspiration?

The original photo was the inspiration for the project. I never would have known what to do without watching the Thread Art lessons. Lola Jenkins makes the process easy.

What are you most proud of?

I'm proud of myself for getting the sketch right. Boy are faces hard to do! I had to omit the glasses and reflection they gave off (it was just too much for a novice like me). I really enjoyed the coloring. I had to go back and add color to the skin. Hooray for the kids' Crayolas. The more colors available for mixing the better.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I'd never made a quilt of any type before and this project made it small and manageable. I would say just practice color mixing first and the rest will fall into place!
