I am loving this type of quilting using our machine stitches. I haven't started my class yet, but have supplies and ready to get started possibly next week. I have signed up for too many classes to keep up! :)

I don't think the border overpowers the quilt. It makes it look like a window and gives the quilt a 3D look. I like it.

Another great project from you. I just love it. I especially like the fact that the stitching is not the dominating factor. This way it gives depth to the project.

Can't wait to see your next one. I agree that the border overpowers the quilt. But I'm not sure if any other colors would work as well.

I think the stitching got lost in the very bright border fabrics. I would use softer fabrics on the piece.

A very clever design using your stupendous stitching! I like that the stitches in each block are the same or very similar but the blocks, themselves, are not symmetrical.

White or pale pastel stitching into the border to tie the two together. Right now I'm looking out a window but my eye is fighting me to stay on the border. Maybe just some stitching...like light streaming in.

That's really lovely Carol Ann. I've recently become involved with Crazy Quilting. I have used several of your techniques on the blocks I've embellished. They look totally awesome! I'm not crazy about the border. It overpowers the quilt.

Ok, I have to put my 2 cents worth in on this one!! It is great like it is, and here's the other shoe, I would mimic the stitching from the squares onto the border, but with white threads and cording. I think that would just make it POP! So, there. My small change into the deposit, for what it's worth!!

My first impression is that these are two different quilts merged together. The border overpowers the stitching. Borders overpower and unbalance the stitching. Needs more white in the borders? Carry stitching into the borders. Eliminate borders altogether? Turn into a table runner and join blocks horizontally?

I've just read through all the comments... beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder, so some will love your quilt, while for others... well, | guess it's not their cup of tea. Personally, I love it. The borders draw your eyes into the view in the window panes very effectively. The contract between the borders and the blocks is just wonderful. Makes me feel like I'm looking into a window from the outside of a house and seeing all the reflections on the glass panes. innovative and a super sweet idea!

I too like the stitching but also the border. Would it tie together is you took more of the long stitching into the border quilting. I recently saw a friend quilting a child's applique quilt with bold shapes and colors using stitches from a book on quilting using even but longer stitches with pearl cotton, actual title I would have to do a search or ask.

ditto everyone else, and I think the scrappy thin strips dividing the 4 Stupendous Stitch blocks help to lend them some more weight. I'm thinking of trying this using a paler verson of one of the colors instead of the white... I do love bright colors and the use of white but it seems to be a weight-thing? Someone appliqued bright strips on their white base and then worked over it, this might give it an entirely new dimension. Thanks, Carol, for the inspiration!

Also, it doesn't look like you used any yarns or rat tail or other couching materials. Is that because you don't think it would hold up if this was a quilt that was actually used? Or was that just a design decision?

I've had an idea floating around in my head to use some stupendous stitching in a quilt,, but it's still just floating there with all the other projects I'd like to do. Did you do the stitching on one piece of fabric and then cut it up for the blocks? Or did you work each block separately?

Carol, where did you use the variegated thread? Could you post which threads you used on the stitches? One of the machine stitches in blue... the block space block one looks like you used a heavier thread, I cannot tell if it is a machine (looks like) or a hand embroidery stitch? Thanks in advance.
