Modern Dresden BOM July #2

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic

Materials

Cotton scraps.

What was your inspiration?

Amy Gibson's BOM Court 2012.

What are you most proud of?

I was surprised to find how easy this was (although mine's got a bit of a corner on it in one place - still practice makes perfect and this WAS my first attempt!). I was a little concerned about the thickness of the finished block and, before I appliqued the disc onto the background I toyed with the idea of cutting out the back of the disc to make it thinner. However, I didn't have the courage to do it, as Amy didn't suggest it, so it's still quite thick.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Choose your colours and patterns carefully. Do look at what other people have posted on the site, as many of them have had excellent and innovative ideas and have made this block look quite spectacular.

Thank you. I didn't start out with any particular theme in mind, but it just sort of evolved with a whole lot of purple scraps and leftovers.

Good idea! They were both comparatively easy, not having any half-square triangles (the bane of my life at the moment!).

Thank you, Pamilia - I thought about doing two colours, which would have been okay, then about three, which wouldn't have worked, not being divisible into 20, four seemed to be okay (hope you're impressed with the maths!) and so that was it!
