What was your inspiration?

I wanted to do something different with the dresden blocks. I was involved with a quilts block swap where we were asked to make the dresden pattern using black & white fabrics with the background fabric being white.

This quilt is being donated to a children's village in Guatemaela.

What are you most proud of?

The way the quilt turned out. I think a child will really enjoy receiving this quilt because it is fun looking.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Think outside of the normal "pattern.

This is one I would love to try. I love the concept of the black and whites, outlined by brights.

Sorry, it was a 10" white on white square with the dresden blades being 7 1/2" long(5 of them) and the colored 1/4 circle (7" circle cut in 4). Hope that helps. I had to go back and reread my instructions. I had used the "Easy Dresden Tool by Darlene Zimmerman" to make my blades, helped alot!!!!

To make this quilt, each block is 12", you are making 1/4 of the dresden fan pattern on each block. The key thing to getting this design is how you place the blocks together. If you zoom in on the quilt, you will see that each block is different because each block was from a quilt block swap I was involved with. We were to make 1/4 dresden pattern using black & while fabrics with the middle piece being a bright color....and this is the result. If I can be of further help, please let me know.

It's using the traditional Dresden Plates pattern to make each block and just placing the blocks in a different way.

That is so cool I have a box of partly done drsden plates (from the fabric donation bin at church) and I was trying to think of something to do with them. I think this might be the answer. Plus, I just think it is totally cool.

Thanks for thinking outside the box. I have been making dresdens and had become a little bored with the standard layout. This will help get me jump started on seeing what I can come up with. That's what I love about quilting.....when you get stuck other quilters can help you look at things differently. Good job! Will have to check out that website too!
