What was your inspiration?
This quillow (a lap-size quilt that folds up inside a pocket on the back to make a cushion or pillow when not in use) was made for my boss, Miranda, on her retirement, to thank her for many years of kindness. She and her husband have travelled extensively in Japan and so I used Japanese inspired patterned fabrics, including one patterned with cranes which signify longevity.
What are you most proud of?
I'm very pleased with the way the colours blend, having been based on the "crane" fabric, which was my starting point. I was also pleased with my first attempt at free-motion quilting on the central panel. It was only vermicelli quilting (stippling), but I think I managed it okay.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Use one fabric with several colours in it as a starting point and choose the rest of your fabrics to blend. Then, just design as you go and be as adventurous as you like!
