Instructions

I triple stitched the seams since I knew this was going to get a lot of use, which may or may not have been necessary. I also closed the top, simple was better for me in this case. I customized the base to fit the spool, simply used the spool to trace a correctly sized circular template instead of the oval one in the pattern. Easy to do with whatever you choose as your stand.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Cute

Materials

An old wooden commercial spool for the stand, stuffing and fabric.

What was your inspiration?

I love my long, thin, sharp quilting pins, and use them for almost every sewing project. I had them stored in a dish at the side of my machine and would get poked every time I used them. I needed a nice large pin cushion to hold them all. A friend emailed me this project and it sat for awhile before I decided it was time to make it. I absolutely love it.

What are you most proud of?

Finding the old wooden spool to use as a stand. Keeps the whole sewing theme going.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

As you will see in the free pattern link, there were some really wonderful fabrics and accents added to the mannequin. I went simple since mine is functional, but would be a cute decorator item if you choose some of the other options.
