Instructions

This quilt is made from Ohio Star blocks, Log Cabin blocks, and applique. I put a cream, red, and brown plaid woven flannel on the back that is a perfect color match. You might be able to find a similar pattern online. The trick to this quilt is to keep track of which block you are making and to line up the Ohio Stars so the points match perfectly. Scant seams are a must for the stars.

Materials

Holly Taylor Migration Fabric. Made entirely from cotton.

What was your inspiration?

I love Holly Taylor fabric. I bought enough fabric to make two! This quilt uses panels and I am impressed with the pattern and how the panels fit in. It looks like the quilt was laid out diagonally, but it wasn't.

What are you most proud of?

Applique is new to me . So, I guess that would be it. I traced the design on the fuse paper prior to ironing it to the fabric. Then, I cut them by hand. You will need some fine scissors.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Try to visualize the placement of the fabric colors. When I did the applique, I did them on the individual blocks as much as possible and then did the final placements at the end.

Beautiful!! I love your fabrics and the pattern, too. The way the colors blend on appliqued leaves is fantastic - so realistic. I know what you mean about points. Getting those triangles to come out perfectly is a challenge for sure, and sometimes an out and out battle!
