What materials did you use? We used Michael Miller fabrics -- and you can use the identical ones if you wish! But you can also take this class using your own fabrics. We've even included a chart in the class materials to help you substitute a fabric for each one we use in class.

Hi everyone! We hope you are having fun with our block of the month. Are any of you wondering about caring for your fabrics? We like to wash all of our batiks before we sew on them because of the wax residue that may be left over from the printing process. We use Retayne (a chemical fixative that you should be able to find at your local quilt shop) but you can also just use warm water (don't use detergent!). We dry our washed fabrics in the dryer on low. Taking them out a few minutes before they are completely dry will help save the step of ironing. Flat fold your 'almost dry' fabrics in a stack. We also launder all of our quilts after they are bound. We usually don't use any soap for this step. If you need to use soap, use one that is specifically made for washing quilts so your fabrics don't fade. Happy Quilting!
