What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make a photo quilt so my Mom would have the family wrapped around her all of the time. My Dad passed away in 2006 and I know my Mom misses him immensely and she doesn't live near any of the family, so this is my way of having the family be there with her always. I modified the pattern because the last photograph of my parents and all of my siblings would not fit into the template. The center square is the last family photograph taken Christmas 2005 before my Dad passed away in early June.

What are you most proud of?

The entire project! Locating and choosing photographs that would make my mom smile. The whole project was a challenge of my skills using photo editing software, getting the photos to print well, and piecing the quilt top. This quilt was a Christmas present for my Mom in 2010.

The last names of all of the family members are quilted into the border of the quilt. I also wrote a poem for my Mom and used it on the label on the back of the quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be prepared to devote a lot of time to this project and don't try to rush through it.

I printed these photos on my home inkjet printer using fabric sheets purchased at JoAnn Fabric. There is also fabric prepared for laser printers .

Great memory quilt! I'm sure your mom loved it. I myself am also working on a family tree quilt but am not quite finished. It definitely is a labor of love, thanks for sharing.

This is such a wonderful way to show memories to your mother. I lost my mom last Christmas and I'm sure your mom misses you dad a lot. He is lucky that all his family live within 20 miles from him to help him through. I'm sure this provides your mom a lot of comfort. Thanks for sharing.
