Memories of Mia

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Classic, Casual

Materials

100% cotton fabric (with a Susan Branch 12-piece fat quarter set as the starting point)

What was your inspiration?

Mia is the friend who got me started quilting when she asked me to join her in taking a quilting class. She died at the young age of 35, and not long after I decided to make this quilt in her memory. She loved Susan Branch books, and this particular fabric has sayings on it that reminded especially of Mia.

What are you most proud of?

The border fabric, of all things. I searched high and low for the perfect border fabric after I completed the quilt top. I found this fabric, and the purple fabric for the inner border and binding, at the same quilt shop. I knew the moment I saw them, they were exactly what I needed.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Yellow Brick Road is an easy pattern to work with, and makes up beautifully from 12 fat quarters. You can add borders of any size, if you want.

"Yellow Brick Road" is a quilt pattern you can buy at most quilt shops, or from a number of online quilt and sewing stores. I've also seen it for sale on eBay and etsy. It's a great pattern, very versatile, and easy to follow. Happy quilting!
