Instructions

I embellished with round buttonholes, I got those instructions from Sandra Betzina's new book on sewing tips.
I used Perl cotton embroidery thread to embellish with top stitching. Although the fabric is busy, it adds just a touch of couture to the coat.
Lined with green rayon fabric.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Funky, Outdoorsy, Traditional

Materials

Printed cotton Twill

What was your inspiration?

The Fabric! I've been sewing a lot of coats/jackets lately - mostly solids, I saw this at Mood and just had to get it. With solid pants and shirt, this will be the focal point of my outfit.

What are you most proud of?

The top stitching and buttonholes. Also, I'm finding that I'm simply getting better at sewing something that looks professional.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take it slow,

Wow Leah this is so super retro. Looks nothing like the pattern picture. Your choice of fabric and top stitching makes this a "special" item. They need to use your jacket for pattern photo.

This is so beautiful. I'm feeling all inspired now to attempt a jacket.

Absolutely fab! I love it! Thanks for the pattern. I would like to know where you got the pattern for the red jacket with this piping? It seems they have changed the way we see the projects and now the patterns are not posted anymore. :(

Really LOVE this! I was wondering on a scale of 1-10 how hard was it? I have made some clothes before and quilts, but not a jacket. I kind of want to challenge myself. Just wondering if maybe I could do it.

I would start with a simpler jacket, one without a collar or princess seams. This one is intermediate to hard.
