Sewing: maxi dress
193 kudoz

maxi dress

aqua and browns

Instructions

this was very easy to make, I had no pattern just took about two yards of material still folded, cut the length i wanted (plus and inch or so for seams) then cut along fold, sewed the two pieces together with the belt attached at sides the added elastic at top and shoulder straps (optional, as elastic can hold dress up if you prefer strapless) and put a seam on the bottom, it only took about an ...

For: Women

Style: Outdoorsy, Casual

Materials

soft stretchy fabric, thread

What was your inspiration?

I was looking at long dresses online and the prices were outrageous so I decided to make my own (the material cost $12...the dresses online started at $70 and went up from there)

What are you most proud of?

the way it came out, this style is easy and is a one size fits most...my sister loved the dress so I made her one (the aqua and browns) using the same amount of material just made the elastic and belt wider and hers fit great as well (I am a size 1 with no chest and she is a size 12 with an extra large chest)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

just use soft stretchy material and it feels and looks good

You did a great job, I used to make things with no pattern, at my age now I have to have a pattern to at least get started. This dress is so cute.

Love this! Unfortunately I would need something that had a little more coverage, but I was thinking a modified short dolman sleeve would probably work and be easy. What do you think?

Wow, so simple and yet it looks great! This would look wonderful on my daughter-in-law! I'm much too large to wear something like this but I really like the concept. Perhaps if I made really wide straps ... don't know, I'll have to think about it!

I'd love to make this for my daughter, but when I click for directions, it just goes to "read less". How can I get the directions? Thanks.

You look very stylish and saved a lot of money, who ever said you had to spend a fortune to look fabulous didn't know what they were talking about.
