What was your inspiration?

My father is dying of inoperable colon cancer in Finland. I'm one of three children, my brothers don't live in the same city, and I'm not even on the same continent. My mom is caring for my failing dad at home by herself, and finds herself overwhelmed by the situation at times, just going to the grocery store becomes a problem. Matti and Pirjo are family friends from almost 40 years ago, and they've selflessly taken to themselves to come over, help my parents in so many different ways: bringing food, companionship, giving my mom the occasional couple of hours so she can run to the pharmacy for more meds my dad needs. My mom said that she wouldn't know what to do unless Matti and Pirjo were so supportive, and now having just come back after a week of cooking, cleaning, and just trying to do the very least I could while there, I agree: there are no words to describe how priceless such acts of human kindness are at our times of difficulty and pain. I knitted them socks, his and hers, of course. I wish I could've knitted them the world.
