Had it totally cleared, then topsoil added and basically just started planting each year, a little here, a ltitle there. The first year everything at the front was too tall to see anything in the back, so we dug up some and re-planted them elsewhere in the garden. Hubby constructed the cobblestone walkway. This garden was by 60th birthday present, and I just love it. It's not pictured, but a ...

Materials

Bought plants, bought seeds, accepted plants, traded plants, husband made cobblestone walkway...

What was your inspiration?

My hubby wanted to do something special for my 60th birthday. We had planned a trip to Maine with the family, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted an oasis to come home to after work. I'm now retired and spend lots and lots of quality time among my plants.

What are you most proud of?

My husband for all the hard work he has put into this for me..... I love my garden, but I love him more.....

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be very, very patient.....I'm learning patience.....And it's worth it every time something new blooms.

Are you talking about the lorapedlum? If so, this picture was taken last spring and this is in full bloom. The pink fringe flowers slowly fade away. After blooming, we prune it back. That's pretty much it,.

The hibiscus are absolutely gorgeous! Do you do anything special to them? I live in the Missouri Ozarks. Normal winter temps are mid-teens to 40 degrees. I also have an angel trumpet that I just got. I will try your method.

We just cut the hibiscus back to just a couple inches above ground, fertilize and cover with leaves to protect against freeze. Thank you for your comments. Good luck with your plants.

How do you keep your angel trumpet from freezing and dying completly during winter? I have a lg potted angel tr tree on my patio in central tx but am afraid to put it in the ground. Any suggestions.

This is what we do. We planted them in the ground, mulch it in the fall for the winter, and don't cut backk the stalks until spring because they are hollow inside and water will get into the stalks and freeze. Hope this helps. In the early spring we cut them all the way back to about four or five inches, fertilize lightly and let it grow. Ours grows a good six feet each spring and summer.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I really appreciate each and every one. I do need to share my bargain of the day. Went to Home Depot today to spent my Mother's Day gift card. Sitting at the entrance to the Garden Center was a lone Calla Lily and several lilies that had finished blooming. Just as I was about to ask how much for the calla lily, one of the employees told the cashier that if anyone asked, all the plants at the entrance were one dollar. I got a gorgeous calla lily which sells for $16.00 for one dollar, all because the pot was broken. Could not believe my good fortune.....
