What materials did you use? A shimmery, textured green fabric, purchased from Fabrique in Plano, TX (a wonderful store), a high-quality polyester lining and silk organza underlining.

What are you most proud of? The couture details. This is becoming my standard mode of operation when sewing, and the difference is amazing.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Fit the bodice carefully. The straps across the back were not permanently sewn in until the final fitting (2 days before the wedding). The neckline as well as the curved seams are stayed with silk-organza selvage. It holds things in place beautifully without adding bulk. Once again, I'm finding the hand-sewing to be the most rewarding part of any sewing project.

Beautiful job Cheryl. This will be a treasure for her for years to come. I love the fact that you bring couture details into your best practice. Many would say they don't have the time to sew this way. However, I know what a busy life you lead. It's all about choices of what we consider a good use of our time isn't it? I'm finding I'd rather spend time on the details (like with my trench coat and all its details) than watching a sitcom on TV or some other passive activity just to fill up my free time. Creating a work of art, like you do with each of your projects, seems a much more worthwhile activity!

What a wonderful gift for a lovely mother of the bride!

I love seeing your stuff. I also find the hand sewing to be so rewarding. I've never liked it before, but the way she showed it and the stitches so perfectly worked that I'd much rather hand sew than machine sew at times.

I also find hand sewing to have a meditative quality to it. It's very calming for me.
