Marguaritaville Filing Cabinet

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Funky, Retro / Vintage, Mod

Materials

1 - used, free 3-drawer lateral ugly beige filing cabinet, 3 - swatches fabric that match at least one of the new colors you are painting the filing cabinet, 2-3 cans acrylic-type spray paint with the paint color on the lid (I used lime green), med. sand paper/block for sanding, drill with a couple size steel bits for attaching 4 - swivel wheels (2.5" - 3") purchased at hardware store for bottom of file cabinet, 16 bolts & nuts for wheels, 3 - drawer pulls of your choice, spray adhesive for fabric, clothing iron, scissors, pencil & ruler for measuring/cutting fabric. Make sure you also have a helping hand or two and a small platform with wheels/dolly to set the file cabinet on. You will also need a garage or outdoor space to allow for work on the project. Perhaps even a nose/face mask if you don't need the dust in your nose. Make sure you use 2 - 3 coats of paint and let it dry thoroughly between coats!

What was your inspiration?

I'm a multi-media artist constantly re-designing my studio and office space! I would never find some thing this unique in my price range, so I decided to make one along with my fabulous daughter and son to help!

What are you most proud of?

My kids!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Patience!

Thanks for your comment! The only thing about making a filing cabinet into a child's dresser in that some type of stopper would be needed for the drawer sliders to stop them from slamming shut. Otherwise its a great idea!
