What was your inspiration?

This one has a bit of a sad story. I never knew this young woman. She was a friend of a friend. Sadly she passed away suddenly at the very young age of 33 or so. She has left behind two young boys. Her friend asked me do this portrait -- all I had to go on was a fairly grainy photocopied funeral program. I hope I did her justice. Her friend is having this framed and giving it to the family. I sure hope that I did her justice.

What are you most proud of?

Working from a fairly poor copy of something and having to make adjustments (such as the angle of the head and the hat).

What a wonderful thing to do - now the family has something unique to remember this young woman by. You've made a picture that will be treasured - and for the very best reasons!

My friends gave this to the mother of this lovely young lady. They are doing a benefit for her two little boys later this month. They had it framed and I haven't seen it. I had wanted to do some background stitching ... her name was "Azur" and I had hoped to incorporate some blues, but they wanted it with a plain background. Apparently the mother just loves it and is happy to have this remembrence.
