What was your inspiration?

Joshua's class. Fantastic clas,, he's such a good teacher.

I had tried making my own moulds before but was intimidating by the thought of trying lace... even though that was my ultimate goal. Great class, very 'followable'.

What are you most proud of?

These are just my first attempts, playing around in the kitchen. Before I would have just used the mould, but Joshua shows results when you also cut out. Really simple, why hadn't I thought of that???

Not final product as I'd like to pipe over some of the detail with Royal Icing (but I don't have any made up). Next time!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid of the mould making silicone. You have plenty of time.

Do think about what you want to make. The kits are not cheap and I have ended up making lots of moulds I'll probably never even use.

Wow great job. I also took Joshua's class and bought this mold kit and then I made the mistake of doing a rose applique instead of lace. :-( lol Maybe I'll give it another try.

Hi Patabiodun. This is part of the fashion inspired fondant class. Joshua explains all the steps. If you didn't want to buy this class then go to http://www.makeyourownmolds.com/silicone-plastique-video for an instruction video. Also google 'make your own mold' and you'll find videos on youtube. It's quite easy if you follow the instructions.

I bought mine on ebay. Took me.a few purchases to find anything thick enough. Try guipure lace (spelling might be slightly different) or corded lace.

You purchase a kit. You can buy it through Craftsy or online retailers. Google Silicone Plastique. In the UK we can buy either this brand or one called Silli. Berare those you buy on ebay. I almost ordered one where the putty sets ion one minute (this was in the small print) which wouldn't give you enough time to get it sculpted around your lace.

This is something i have been afraid to try....gonna have to go for it. So many brides want cakes that look like their dresses. And buying the molds is expensive. Thanks for the post.

Go for it! My oly reservation is just how delicate you can get your gumpaste appliques. It's something I've been thinking long and hard about, and I'm not convinced molds are necessarily the way to go. I'm thinking of going old school and piping the lace but maybe with sugar veil to give a little stretch and flexibility. Let me know how you get on with your molds. x

You have to make the molds yourself. It's demonstrated in Joshua's tutorial, Fashion Inspired Findant. You can also buy the bold making kits through Craftsy. You then buy your lace applique and make your mold. Very simple!!

Have a go! Very easy. Sat making leaf veiners last night. Much much cheaper than buying ones already made and sometimes you can't get what you want anyway, Bit addictive, though!!!

I'm sure I could do a better final versn as this was an old bit of fondant kicki around in my tool box. Think it would look really pretty in white and dried on a former. Great tutorials. Love all three!!!
