What advice would you give someone starting this project? Go for it! It's really not as hard as it looks.

I love the dog pillow. Was it complicated to make?

Thanks. I had a blast making it. I used the free software QuiltAssistant ( http://www.cosman.nl/software_en.html ) which automatically broke the image down into color patches. The hardest part was getting the number down from 64 to 16 fabrics. Then printed out the templates. I used WonderUnder so there were no seams allowances to worry about. Using the most predominant fabric as a silhouette for the background then just started layering on the fabrics. Freemotion thread painting to blend the edges. I would go around each patch with one color then another and another until I got what I liked. It was easy following the hair, short up and down strokes and a few curly ones. The background was 3 fabrics backed w/WonderUnder, free hand cut, woven together & pressed onto muslin. (That's when I found out my cutting mat wasn't heat proof, duh). The verse above Magnolia and the label where printed on white cotton I pressed on freezer paper cut to fit my printer.
