Madhatter's Tea Party

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Funky, Cute

Materials

Soft multipurpose 6mm rope, fabric strips cut on bias, thread and craft superglue.

What was your inspiration?

I've been wanting to try this idea I had ever since I started making coil baskets earlier in the year. I can't decide whether to permanently attach the cups to the saucers though.

What are you most proud of?

That it worked, and its original!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to experiment!

Hi Sarah, You may be interested in my book "Sewing Pottery by Machine". I teach how to make enclosed forms resembling pottery, using the coiled cording method. www.softpottery.com. You do nice work!

Wow! Your work is just gorgeous! I've had trouble learning to wrap the cord, if only I had a third hand!

Theses are absolutely beautiful! Do you have a step-by step tutorial on how to do these? I so want to try as I have quite a lot of fabric lying around. Thanks!

These are so clever, I would love to try this too. Where did you learn to do this? Can I too?

Thank you! You can absolutely learn to do this, it's so quick and easy and allows you lots of room to experiment with different designs. If you look at my other coilled stuff I usually post a link to a straight forward tutorial on how to make a basic bowl. Six months ago I read that same tutorial, made a few coasters to get the hang of it, and now I'm hooked! One of the best things is that the rewards are fairly immediate because you can make something beautiful in a couple of hours.

So Sew So cute! I'm sure you could sell the pattern! I like the cup unattached. That way you could use the pieces separately if you needed to...you are inspiring me to a new craft!

Great idea! I can imagine a whole set of these on an equally colorful crazy-quilt tablecloth!
