STEP 1: Cut the lining out of the purse and separate all leather pieces with a seam ripper. STEP 2: Begin by marking 4 rectangular pieces (the length of your hand + 4” (10 cm), the width of your hand + 1” (3cm)) for the mittens and 4 small thumb pieces (measure you thumb length + ¾” (2 cm), the width + ½” (1 cm), then extend the width only at the bottom of the pieces by ½” (1 cm) on each side). Round off 2 corners on each mitten piece and chalk in a mark at the exact length of your hand on all 4 mitten pieces. STEP 3: Use all pieces to mark out duplicates on the fleece scraps. Cut out the fleece lining. STEP 4: Measure around your wrist and cut the same size elastic (x2). STEP 5: Sew thumb pieces together at a ¼” (1 cm)seam allowance. STEP 6: Cut out a placement for the thumb piece on 2 of the mitten pieces. Sew the thumb pieces in. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for lining. STEP 7: Topstitch a quilting pattern on 2 mitten pieces ¾” (2 cm) apart (on the mitten pieces without the thumb piece attached). STEP 8: Attach mitten pieces (¼” (1 cm) seam allowance). STEP 9: Place elastic on marks for the length of your wrist, and zigzag around the mitten through all layers. STEP 10: Place studs in place (this is optional). STEP 11: Insert lining. *Note: Before you start sewing, you will have to change the sewing machine needle and the presser foot. You will also need to adjust the sewing machines upper thread tension and stitch length. Practice on a scrap first.
