What are you most proud of? I'm very thankful to Jesus - who gives me the creativity, resources & ability to make lovely dresses for my little granddaughters!

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make sure your pleats are even, put a lightweight, fusible stabilizer on the wrong side of the fabrics, and sew the decorative stitches on the wrong side. My Baby Lock Sewing Machine came with a bobbin designed to accommodate heavy threads & yarn. Ordinary bobbins can work if you loosen the tension on the bobbin case. Generally speaking, I don't like to mess with the tension on the bobbin. If you plan to do a lot of bobbin work, I would suggest getting a second bobbin case that can be set to the looser tension.

I did this project on a BabyLock Symphony sewing machine. It has a special bobbin case that allows me to do "bobbin work". This bobbin case has a special tension setting that let me use the heavy metallic thread. I put the fabric right side down (facing the bobbin) and selected several different decorative stitches that are built into this machine. Many machines have a variety of decorative stitches to use. And you can adjust the tension on the bobbin to accommodate heavier threads, but I like the fact that my Symphony came with a separate bobbin case dedicated to that purpose so I don't have to mess with the bobbin tension. Hope this helps Dolores.v

Beautiful dresses for machine smocking. I am waiting for a tutorial on this technique.

Thank you Barbara. I'm working on trying to figure out how to do video tutorials for my sewing work.

What type of thread did you use in your bobbin? Pearl cotton? Also do you wind it on by hand?

I used pearl cotton thread in the bobbin. I did not wind it by hand. I was able to use the bobbin winder on my machine to wind the bobbin.
