Is is possible to use a 12 weight thread ( sulky) in the needle for some of this type work that you do so wonderfully.?

Maybe, if you use a size 16 needle and use the patterns with very little overstitching. You will want a fairly strong background fabric, but not thick (a good quality quilting cotton). Avoid stitching in the same place, 12 wt. threads really build up fast. I have used other brands, and always find it necessary to test them out and make sure they will perform as you wish.
