Lyre Echoes Hair Barrette or scarf pin

Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
Hair Barrette or Shawl pin »

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Funky, Whimsical

Materials

I have developed this variation of my hair barrette from my Lyre Echoes necklace design, by taking the shape of the frame and enlarging it. Made with heavy gauge copper wire, I have shaped the wire by hand and then hammered it, to flatten the copper and form the curve in the frame, this also hardened the wire. I have then embellished the frame with Aventurine, Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst and copper beads of graduating sizes and wrapped the beads so that they are securely held in place. This can be worn as a hair barrette or shawl/scarf pin. It measures 2 1/2" long and 1 1/3" wide with a 1/3" curve and the pin is 3 1/2" long.

I just love the look of the copper and Lapis, they compliment each other so well. Another great project Abby! Oh, and I checked out your website, awesome!

Thank you :) I love Lapis with copper too, I can't make up my mind though is I prefer it with oxidised or natural copper. Glad you like my website, I have spent a lot of time recently trying to make it more user friendly, so really appreciate the feedback :)

Abby, my opinion on the copper, I prefer the natural to the oxidized. And that is whether you use stones like the Lapis, or a plain copper wrap. I also think that the copper pairs very well with silver too!
