Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Pets

Style: Casual, Whimsical, Funky, Cute

Materials

Cotton prints (1 for main garment, 1 for lining)

What was your inspiration?

A lovely black doggie that belongs to a friend of mine. Her name is "Lucy". She is a large mixed breed, adopted by my friend from an animal shelter. I LOVE ladybugs and found the fabric at Joannes and had to buy it. It was also used to make a toddler outfit (another project of mine included in the 'sewing section' of this site).

What are you most proud of?

It's just cute. From the 'Lady Bug' decorative button on the back to the 'Lady Bug' decorataive detail button on the hat. It is simply a cute outfit. The cute canine "hat model" in the photo is my trusty pomeranian "Constanzia". She loves to model all of mommies outfits made for other doggies.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun!! Be creative.

Constanzia is a precious model for your canine creations! Do you have patterns for something simple for a little girl dog about 15 lbs.? I have a black Chiweenie that resembles her Dauschund half.. A little long and low to the ground with a little apple head. I have looked at commercial patterns such as Simplicity but don't care for them. Can you help?

I tend to make my own patterns to fit my own dogs. Then when I get something I like, I take it to the copier store and have it enlarged or reduced to fit other sizes. I also sew by measurements. So I alter patterns to fit the dogs I sew for. I buy commercial patterns and use parts of one to sew to another. Many of the commercial patterns look much different when one uses different fabrics and lots of creativity (i.e. double skirts, lace, bows, etc.) If you will let me know what you are looking for (dress, jogging suit, pants, shirt, night shirt, etc.) I will try to come up with something that is easy to sew and looks Fantastic!! Thanks for your interest.

It's a given that my husband believes I am certifiable. However, he allows me this luxury because I cook him good meals. Lol I love sewing for pets and have a line of dog clothes labeled "Doggie Duds by Dottye--Designer apparel for distinguished canines." It's a lot of fun!!
