Materials

Polyester brocade scraps Hand-cross-stitched tiger cut out from a garment interfacing polyfill and foam cording

What was your inspiration?

I had cross-stitched this tiger onto a khaki denim jacket, then cut it out when the jacket was no longer serviceable. It still looks great! I framed it and used it in the bedroom for a long time, but felt it needed to be WORN. Two of my siblings graduated from LSU, hence the purple and gold brocade.

What are you most proud of?

This pillow looks awesome anywhere you put it. I used scraps from other projects to make the whole thing, including the styrofoam filler.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The applique is quite easy. Always back an applique project with interfacing of some kind before stitching. The piping can be tricky. I used cording from a pillow sham and covered it with the brocade. Hard to stitch on that slick material!

The lady who bought it planned to take it off the pillow and sew it on a jacket to wear to the Lady Tigers' basketball games! ;)
