Instructions

The volume is turned up on my tiles, although I love the fabric. I'm wondering if I should add sashing to make it less loud. Here are some pictures of possible ways to sew together the blocks. Any ideas?

I agree that sashing would ruin the feel of this quilt. I love it the way it is, but if you wanted to make it less busy, how about just using one vertical strip of blocks on a solid background?

I'm posting this again, because I see that I inadvertently posted as a response to another comment. One of the main goals of this project is to create a composition without a visible block structure. If you add sashing, you will definitely lose that and I think the composition could suffer. If you feel that you need negative space around the blocks,I would recommend that you create a less conventional composition by arranging the blocks randomly/asymmetrically on your design wall and then filling in the space around them (similar to the Improv Pods project). I agree that the amount of contrast in your gray fabrics definitely pumps up the volume, but I think the quilt will look great however you finish it. Great job!

Personally, I prefer it without the sashing. No sashing allows the vertical lines to flow. Have to get cracking on my version soon :)

I think your quilt is great, well done. But I don't think u need a border - embrace modern quilting.

I think adding the sashing gives your eyes a place to rest when looking at the quilt. It's really personal preference but I like the sashing. I think it makes the blocks themselves look very interesting.

I like it as it is, no sashing. I still think it's reasonable low volume. I have mine cut out ready to sew together, must get to my machine

So sorry. The system is giving me trouble here.
