I just love your work by the sea, now did you learn this completely from this one class? If you did, I want to sign up right away. Really, I am trying to get into people portraits and looking for a good workshop. GREAT WORK!

I did this quilt before I took the class. Made a pattern from a photo, used a good quality fusible (misty fuse) and was surprised by how easy it was to do and how well it turned out. Portraits and people are way more difficult than landscapes. This class (Wendy Butler Burns) gave some great advice - to keep the facial features simple. The viewer will extrapolate and fill in the details.

I am so impressed with how the darker fabric makes the water look so much deeper. How did you learn to do this? I am not sure how to make a pattern from a picture. ANy tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks for getting back to me, I Just love your work@

Hi ! The fabric I used goes from darker to lighter water. I fussy cut it to get the colour change that I wanted. To make the pattern I made an 8X10 black and white print of the photos on regular printer paper. I outlined the mountain, the shaded bits, the rocks, logs, seaweed, etc. with a dark pencil I copied the darker lines onto another piece of paper by holding them both up against the window - a light box would have been easier. I enlarged the drawing by about 180% copied it onto freezer paper and used the freezer paper as my pattern. In this class Wendy Butler Burns talks about making and using a freezer paper pattern.
