Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Home & Garden

Type of item: Plant or Flower

For: Home

Style: Whimsical

Materials

Wire wreath, wire, spagnum moss, hen & Chicks, potting soil

What was your inspiration?

I love the story behind Hen & Chicks, Back in early america the roofs where made of thatch{straw,Sticks} and the hen & chicks were placed on the roofs , they are a scucculent plant that holds water, If A fire was to happen, it would burn at a slower rate w/Hen & Chicks attached to the roof...

What are you most proud of?

My garden is my sanctuary..This week I have 101 foxgloves blooming, they all came from 3 plants I purchased 2years ago, I gathered seeds from every flower, and planted all of them..Now I have an abundance of hummingbird delights to watch..

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Place your moss all around with small amount of soil, place your Hen & Chicks around, then wire around the wreath, water...Wait for a week before hanging so the plants can anchor themselves securly.. Another option is to take a basket with a coco mat and flip it over, fill w/some moss and soil, place Hen & chicks, then wire the bottom to retain the stabilty...Have fun..and get dirty..

That's so neat about the hens & chicks as a sort of fire-proofing/retardant on roofs! Your wreath is so great, too :)
