What was your inspiration?

I wanted to do something other than cards for family this year.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I used several of Wild Olive's embroidery pattern collections.
I found crochet patterns for the frames In:
Crochet Today!, Nov/Dec 2012 - Granny Brag Frames
And I adapted border patterns from these books:
Around the Corner Crochet Borders by Edie Eckman
and 50 More Crocheted Afghan Borders published by Leisure Arts

Very nice! I love Wild Olive's embroidery patterns and I've made a few myself. Love your crochet borders too.
