What materials did you use? Cotton threads and linen fabric

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I don't live near a town so I've had to make do with an old linen table mat which was really, really soft. I probably should have spray starched it first. I have limited to cotton threads so I used rayon for my berries - not nearly as nice to sew with as the cotton thread.

Love it. I like the deeper color on the breast and the way you sketched out the branches. The purple feathers are gorgeous. Mince!
