Lines, Circles & S-Curves
Finished and headed for AAQI

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Instructions

I used an 9" x 11" practice sandwich for this piece. I'll probably finish it as a mug rug at about 8" x 10".

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Funky, Casual

Materials

FMQ using "So Fine" 50 wt. thread by Superior Threads on a cotton fabric with Warm and Natural Batting. This project was supposed to be done using a 60 wt thread like "Bottom Line", but I don't have any (yet).

What was your inspiration?

Techniques taught in class so far... this is the first homework assignment.

What are you most proud of?

I didn't skip actually DOING my homework!

Added 3-9-2013: I went ahead and embellished this piece with a pink iridescent Shiva Paintstik, added binding and will be sending it off as a donation to AAQI .

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun with it.

this is such beautiful art work. Cindy Needham has got to be one of the best quilt teachers out there. I feel so fortunate to be able to have her teach me basically one on one and have all her years of knowledge at my disposal. To get feedback and encouragement directly from her is beyond belief, especially at such a great price. I am one of Craftsy's biggest fans. I tell anyone who i think would be interested about this wonderful site. Has to be the best website on the Internet. I'm not exaggerating either. Thanks Cindy, and Craftsy!!!

Wonderful, wonderful quilting! I'm sure that practice placemats & mug rugs are in my future to see if I can come even close to this fabulous quilting.

been thinking of doing something like this, great job. I have to try it now. Have you taken any other classes? I have started a few and have so little time for all I wont to try. At 70 I don't have that much time left.

I haven't taken any other Craftsy classes yet and only one freemotion quilting class at my local quilt shop about 3 years ago. I've been doing a lot of learning from books, DVD's, youtube and other web sites, but mostly it comes down to a lot of practice and trying out new things all the time.

impressive, is that cotton? Which batting did you use?

Yes, the fabric is cotton, the thread is a 50 wt. poly embroidery thread, and the batting is Warm and Natural cotton. I need to get some more Hobbs wool so I can try Cindy's gourmet batting recipe!

Beautiful, I have a lot of practicing to do before I am anywhere near that.

Practice is exactly what it takes, Jetje. Keep at it and you can do it too. It took me months of practice before I had ANYTHING that looked acceptable. I've been at it for over 3 years now, and still learning tons! This class has introduced me to some great new concepts I need to work on.

Yeah Wendy, You know I am already your biggest fan. Wonderful to have a photo with your name. Even your homework is beautiful. I'm so thrilled you are taking the class. You are so imaginative and all it takes is just a little thing and your imagination will take that little nugget and beauty will spring forth.
